The Caymanian Compass has confirmed that a man was electrocuted Tuesday night in West Bay.
The incident was reported at the West Bay Heritage complex near Ed Bush field around 9.30pm Tuesday.
The individual who was killed was an electrician apparently involved in setting up the heritage park in West Bay for the annual Heritage Day event. According to police, the man had been contracted by an electrical company to work at the site.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday and Pirates Week officials confirmed that it would continue as planned despite the incident.
Event organisers said the man was working on an air conditioning unit inside one of the houses that had been set up at the park for Heritage Day.
“He was on his own in the little house trying to fix the A/C,” said Eziethamae Bodden, one of the event organisers who expected that today’s festivities would continue.
Mrs. Bodden said the man’s family told her he had been feeling unwell earlier in the day.
A security guard who was a friend of the dead man entered the small structure around 9pm Tuesday to find the worker lying on the floor with some wires in his hand.
The victim’s identity was not immediately known. He was 33 years old.
