Burglary scuffle arrest made

A West Bay man who police said waved a knife at a woman after he broke into her apartment around midnight Tuesday last week has been arrested.

The incident was reported at 11.55pm, 6 March on North West Point Road in West Bay.

The woman who reported the break-in told police the suspect picked up the weapon when she confronted him inside the apartment. She told officers there was a brief struggle before the man ran from the building and waded into the sea.

Police, fire crews and a medic were sent to the area. During the ensuing search, officers with the marine unit arrested a man who was found sitting in an anchored boat not far from where the break-in happened.

The apartment resident suffered some minor injuries in the scuffle with the suspected burglar, but was expected to be fine.
