Magazine celebrates Brac anniversary

The history and potential of Cayman Brac High School is being celebrated with a special 40th anniversary publication.

With a theme of ‘Celebrating the Past – Looking Towards the Future,’ the school’s 40th Anniversary/Yearbook Magazine was recently completed, said a GIS press release.

The magazine includes congratulatory messages from Governor Stuart Jack, Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts as well as from Acting Principal Adrian Jones and Parent-Teachers Association President James Tibbetts.

The content includes interviews with long-serving teachers, as well as articles which highlight literacy and numeracy initiatives, technology and extracurricular activities.

A history review goes back to the first day of classes in 1967.

Prepared by a team of five students and five staff, the magazine showcases the talent of pupils in areas ranging from social commentary, short stories and poems to cartoons and puzzles. In the editor’s address, Devon Bowen said the magazine, ‘serves to capture our achievements and aspirations at this point in our history… It is indeed a very rich history.’

Thanking those who contributed to the institution over the past four decades, Mr. Jones stated that a ‘great degree of gratitude and appreciation must be given to those visionaries whose foresight led them to the establishment of this school. They struggled against seemingly insurmountable obstacles to bring this dream to reality.’

Speaking of student performances in academics, sports and other areas, the Acting Principal added, ‘It is upon this strong foundation that Cayman Brac High School today stands as a model for excellence in education in the Cayman Islands.’

This magazine project was made possible by the financial support of a cross-section of Cayman Brac businesses and residents.
