Like Dorothy’s three clicks of her heels to get home in the Wizard of Oz, now the delights of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are just a click away for tourists and residents.
The District Administration has launched www.itsyourstoexplore.com
‘We envision the site to be a premier source of information for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman,’ said marketing and promotions manager with District Administration, Chevala Burke.
The soft launch took place last Thursday, but the actual work began for it toward the end of last year, she said.
The content and copy posted on the long awaited site was done within District Administration, while an international team, Design Kitchen of Chicago, was hired to design the site, which Brac Informatics Centre hosts.
The marketing campaign for the site is being developed, Ms Burke said.
It is to be marketed overseas to reach out to tourists, but the site is not just for this important target group, Ms Burke commented.
‘We want locals to use the site also, including school-age children,’ she said.
The site could serve as a valuable educational tool for children to learn about Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
One interactive feature encourages the reader to type in his or her name and click on a Cayman Brac adventure. The user can then choose whether they want to hone in on active exploration (such as rock climbing, hiking or diving and snorkelling), balanced vacation (enjoying scenic views, biking or discovering the island as a bird haven), or total relaxation (pampering yourself at a spa, sipping cocktails by the pool or laying in a hammock).
Much about Cayman Brac is detailed under various headings. You can learn about island history, natural wonders, safety, weather, currency and maps.
Other sections include activities, an events calendar, an island guide, and a plan your trip guide, along with a photo gallery.
A link at the top right corner of the home page allows you to visit the treasures of Little Cayman, where a printable map and island information are available.
There is also a member area where access can be gained to contests, downloads and more.
The Sister Islands are seeing visitors that are interested in doing all round activities, not just diving, said Ms Burke.
These nature tours on Cayman Brac, conducted by nature tourism guides, offer a more in-depth look at some of the hidden treasures you can only find off the beaten path in the way of birding, caving, wetlands, parrot reserves or historic sites.
Nature tours can also be arranged on Little Cayman. Contact District Administration on 948-2222, extension 4420 for more information.
