39 years of service
The Department of Tourism was delighted to thank and recognise Cayman Airways staff for consistently delivering great service over the last 39 years on 7 August.
But, little did they know exactly how hard CAL staff would be required to work just two weeks later in the run up to and post Hurricane Dean, said a DoT press release.
‘I would personally like to commend all Cayman Airways staff for their hard work and dedication in the days prior to and after the passing of Hurricane Dean,’ said Minister of Tourism Charles Clifford. ‘Cayman Airways evacuated over 5000 people off Grand Cayman with staff remaining calm and professional throughout.’
In what has become an annual tradition, DoT provided lunch on Cayman Airways’ actual anniversary date for front-line staff on all three islands. CAL staff in Grand Cayman were catered to by Welly’s Cool Spot, while Cayman Brac staff enjoyed lunch from Biggies, and Little Cayman employees were able to take time out at the Hungry Iguana.
At Miami and Tampa Airports, festivities were also held in commemoration of the milestone. Activities for passengers included live music, beverages, snacks and anniversary cake at departure gates.
