Mediation training course set

A mediation training course is planned for March, offering participants a chance to develop skills in dispute resolution.

Appleby Spurling Hunter is coordinating the three-day course in association with ADR Chambers (UK) Ltd and Stitt Feld Handy Group of Canada.

It will take place March 16-18.

The course is an opportunity for interested persons to be trained in dispute resolution solution from industry leaders, and to become accredited mediators, states a press release.

The course, conducted by a team of specialist trained mediators and neutral evaluators, will teach the entire process of mediation to participants, who will develop the skills needed to act as mediators and as representatives of or advisers to the parties involved in a mediation.

The course follows the ethics and standards set out in the EU Model Code of Conduct for mediators. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified as Accredited Mediators by ADR Chambers.

‘Through this course, we aim to increase the awareness of mediation generally and enable other practitioners to become accredited,’ commented Appleby Litigation Partner Jeremy Walton.

‘Since becoming an accredited mediator, I have been able to offer my clients an additional dimension of service, enabling disputes to be resolved whilst preserving working relationships in an expeditious and cost-effective manner.

‘The course should be of interest not only to lawyers and law students who wish to develop a mediation practice, but also to those in other professions or industries who have a use for mediation skills: anyone who has to resolve complaints or disputes as part of their job will benefit from this training,’ he said.

‘This is the first time that a course of this nature and calibre has been offered in the Cayman Islands, we are delighted to be associated with it and hope that it is well attended.’
