Cayman HospiceCare is holding its fifth annual flag day, with volunteers out in force to collect money and hand out sunflower stickers Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 February.
About 100 volunteers will be stationed throughout George Town and other areas including West Bay and Seven Mile Beach, holding out their green and yellow canisters for people to contribute whatever they can.
On Friday, the volunteer force will be out from 12pm to 4pm, and on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
Flag day is a significant event for the organisation, explained Jennifer Grant-McCarthy, fundraising coordinator for the hospice.
‘Flag day is a huge undertaking and, as always, our volunteer force is highly motivated. Every year we have raised more than the year before.
‘We encourage everyone to give what they can as this fundraiser proves every year that every penny does count,’ Mrs. McCarthy said.
In addition, Coconut Joe’s will be holding a car wash Saturday from 10am to 2pm to help the cause.
‘We’re extremely grateful to Coconut Joe’s staff for once again donating their time and efforts to help the hospice raise always-needed money,’ she said.
Cayman HospiceCare is a non-profit organisation that offers specialty and palliative nursing care for people with life-threatening illnesses. All of the services the hospice provides are free.
The hospice therefore relies heavily on donations and funds collected through special events to stay up and running, Mrs. McCarthy explained.
