Our own Mr. Livingston Bailey, Cayman Islands’ International FIFA Assistant Referee, is now a Certified Referee Instructor.
Mr. Bailey attended a FUTURO III Referees’ Instructor Course, from September 11th to the 18th, 2006, at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya, Trinidad. The course was conducted by two FIFA Instructors in association with the FIFA Development Office, and was designed to develop Referee Instructors within the region, theoretically and tactically.
According to Mr. Bailey, he was very delighted to have been given the opportunity to attend the course. He believes that football has undergone striking changes in recent years and referees must now adapt to these changes. He thinks that not only should a referee be cognizant of the laws of the game, but he should also interpret such laws correctly and understand their applications during a game.
Mr. Bailey, who is also the 1st Vice-President of the Cayman Islands Referee Association (CIRA), states that now his main objective is to help with the development of local referees and assistant referees, in order to improve their standards. He will also assist Senior Referee Instructor and Assessor, Mr. Fred Speirs, with Referees’ Beginner Courses.
Bailey encourages young people and retired footballers to get involved in refereeing for the betterment of football in the Cayman Islands. He also thanks CIFA for its vision in developing Cayman Football and its focus on raising its standard.
Interested individuals are encouraged to call the CIFA office at 949-5775, to send a request for information by e-mail to [email protected]mailto:[email protected], or to contact CIRA’s President Alfredo Whittaker at 917 4843.
