Four killed in West

JAMAICA – Four people were killed, three by gunmen and one fatally stabbed, in separate incidents in Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth and St. James on the weekend.

Two of the victims are unidentified while the others have been named as 43-year-old Gilbert Hibbert, of Slipe Road in Kingston, and Nicholas Pike, a 30-year-old vendor of Hopewell, Hanover.

A passer-by summoned the police to the Crab Pond Point Beach in Westmoreland on Saturday after he stumbled upon the body of an unidentified man.

The deceased, who is believed to be in his early thirties, was found about 6 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was of dark complexion, 5ft 6in tall and wore a red Guernsey and black shorts.

Later at 7:30 a.m. Hibbert’s body was fished from the Barlon River in St. Elizabeth. He had a gunshot wound to the head and his hands and feet were tied.

The Lacovia police have theorised that Hibbert was killed when he accompanied two men to purchase ganja in the parish. They also say that he was a suspect in a double murder at Rose Lane, Kingston, on April 15.

On Saturday afternoon three gunmen abducted a taxi operator and a male passenger in Ironshore, St. James before killing the unidentified passenger.

Police reports are that about 2pm four men boarded a taxi in Montego Bay for Lilliput. During the journey, one of the men asked the driver to take him to a location off the route.

He and two others subsequently pulled guns and ordered the driver from around the steering wheel. It is said that one of the gunmen then drove the vehicle to Hatfield Meadows in Ironshore where they handcuffed the driver and the fourth man together.

Two of the men drove away in the car and left their third crony at the scene. They later returned, released their victims and fired several shots before the three of them escaped on foot.

The driver was unharmed but his passenger was hit by bullets and died on the spot.

The gunmen are suspected of robbing an undetermined sum of money and valuables from a businessplace during the time they had their victims bound.

In the fourth incident, Pike was fatally stabbed during a fight with a man, with whom he allegedly had a dispute, at Gravel Lane in Montego Bay yesterday morning.

According to the police, approximately 5 a.m. Pike went to premises where he kicked open the man’s door and stabbed at him. There was a fight and both men sustained stab wounds. Pike was pronounced dead at hospital while the other man was admitted under police guard.
