It was a great weekend of Little League action with the weather finally cooperating and all practices and games being held, with multiple games held in the 10 to 12 boys league. The players may be boys but they play as hard as the men.
In the Olde against Coldwell Banker game there was good pitching on behalf of the latter by John Fawkes and Ricoh Brown, who pitched a scoreless inning. Kyle Thompson scored three runs and had a nice catch in center field for Coldwell to put Keenan out. Coldwell had two good plays at home to end the innings to outplay Olde 9 to 2.
Island Paving had steady pitching by Rashad Rawkin and Joshua Parsons and back to back triples in the Fourth Inning by David Bodden and Seth Watler sealed the victory for Island Paving against Dart 9 to 3.
Deloitte played Grand Harbour twice over the weekend. In the first game Santangello Berry pitched three consistent innings with Falsio Gall coming in as relief pitcher in the Fourth. Philip Webb, Ben Stoner and Alex Pascal helped keep the runs to a minimum with good glove work. Grand Harbour’s offense came alive for their second best run total of the season. Jacob Huber, Jordan McLauglin and Fabio Gall all hit for Grand Slams (inside the park) home runs. All ten players scored for Grand Harbour and nine players had base runs during the game.
Game two stated off slowly for Grand Harbour with the offense getting only one run in the First Inning but the defense was tough and only allowed two runs. The Second Inning was better for them holding Deloitte to one run and they scored six. Jesse Parham pitched all six innings for Grand Harbour allowing Deloitte to bat only three times through the lineup. Good defensive plays were made by Mark Reid at second base and Santangello Berry at first base and Jacob Huber at catcher. Jacob also helped with the bat as well as Philip Webb and Alex Pascal. The final score of 17 to 6 was not a reflection of how hard each team played. It was a good win for Grand Harbour and a tough loss for Deloitte.
In Pony action, in the CAPA against Burger King game Alex Balls caught an excellent pop fly at first base. Deguan Bennett’s home runs put Burger King on the board but it was no match for CAPA’s sterling hitting and defense.
In the Too Hot against Progressive Distributors game Kyle Frazier hit three homers and all Progressive’s batters hit well. Too Hot had an 11-2 lead and Progressive came back hard. Shaun Larson, for Progressive, hit a line drive and Dave Scott made an excellent play to get the runner from second out and end the game. It was a close and very enjoyable game which Too Hot Won.
In Tee Ball, Home Gas had seventeen of eighteen batters crossing the plate in the First Innings. All their players hit well with Zachary Parham, Tristan Hiker, Nathan Borde and Ryan Van der Bol hitting home runs. In the Second Innings the defense of Red Sail stiffened a little allowing eleven batters to cross home plate. Nathan Borde hit his second home run of the game. However, the defense of Home Gas knocked balls down but the throws were a little off. Nathan backed up his good offence with good defense. Joshua Whittaker, Oskane Miller, Dominic DaCosta and Nestor Broderick helped bring home the win for Home Gas 28 to 25.
Butterfield Bank had a close game with Appleby Spurling Hunter. Kenny McLean scored two home runs and Joshua McKenzie got home runs in the Second Innings bringing home two runners. Brandon Williams, pitcher, and Pablo Bertran on first base achieved an impressive five outs in the first innings.
Caribbean Publishing and CIBC had a very competitive and well spirited game. With these teams in first and second place (shared) in the standings this game had a great deal of importance to these two teams. Caribbean Publishing had been the victors in their earlier meeting in the season and CIBC were keen to level the score and avoid a clean sweep. CIBC opened with some fine fielding to hold the good Caribbean Publishing batters at bay. Caribbean Publishing responded with some good fielding but the bats of CIBC proved too strong with Tre Dilbert, Stephen Shwartz and Joshua Hew all hitting Grand Slams. Jonathon Key got ready to hit as last batter for the first time ever in a game, with the bases loaded. Jonathon made a mighty swing, made good contact and by running flat out he made it all the way home to the delight and cheers of his team mates, coaches and parents.
It’s only a week away from the Grand Prize drawing of US$25,000. Players will be in uniform selling tickets at supermarkets and other establishments. Buying a ticket and support the League.
