Island Paving, Progressive, CIBC clinch titles

Island Paving, Progressive and CIBC all won this weekend, securing their respective division titles.

After a day of sunshine on Friday ,the Field of Dreams dried, allowing a full weekend of play.

Island Paving has been dominant in the 10-to-12 boys division and it was no surprise to see them close out the competition this week.

In the same division, Roheem Robinson pitched solid innings for Deloittes with nine strike outs. Ben Drummon got the save with a nice catch by Coldwell’s Dino Hydes in the third inning.

Coldwell Banker rallied nicely, but fell one run short.

In Pony, Progressive Distributor’s Zach Larson was first to bat in the final inning and hit a home run.

Joneil Bent followed with his second home run of the game.

Progressive played well, using the inning to score five runs and making the final score 7-0.

Alex Balls made a great double play for Burger King, but it was not enough to hold Progressive.

Tanner Hatch had a big day for Too Hot pitching in the first inning with three strike outs.

In the following two innings, he hit home runs to help Too Hot to victory over Sports Supply. Joel Durksen was able to come home for two runs.

Esso had an outstanding defense and power hitting in all four innings, producing eight runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead.

Cayman Airways Pilots Association came back to tie the game 11-11.

Naithique walloped a home run with two RBI’s in the first inning. CAPA registered 12 hits to Esso’s 10, making a great way to finish the season with every player getting a hit and no one losing the game.

In TeeBall action it was almost the weekend of upsets. Appleby secured their first win of the season with a sterling victory against Home Gas.

Second-place Bank of Butterfield sought to secure a win against third-place Caribbean Publishing and tie the division with CIBC. A victory would have cleared the way for a Butterfied-CIBC shoot out next week for the division title in the last game of the season.

However, Caribbean Publishing had something different in mind and opened with excellent batting.

Butterfield responded with good pitching by Brandon Williams and good play by Kayle Parsons on second.

Zion Coe caught a pop up fly and made the play to first base, where Connor Woods completed the double out.

In the second innings Zach Scott brought the loaded bases home as the penultimate batter.

The second pop-fly play came for Caribbean Publishing when Butterfield were at last bat with the bases loaded and the game tied. The result was four outs and the win for Caribbean Publishing.

CIBC went into this weekend’s game feeling fairly confident with a superior record over Red Sail.

However, the latter also had something else in mind and came out with excellent batting by Elijah Seymour and his team-mates.

CIBC responded with home runs by Jared Solomon, Mathew Rich and Romulo Hoybia, After the First Inning Red Sail led by one.

The good play continued in the second inning with excellent fielding by Aiden Jacobson, Ciaran Twohey and Jahida. Sam Stainrod made an outstanding play at first base, stopping a certain home run by Joshua Hew.

It was a nail-bitter with Tarrick Anderson as last batter with the bases loaded and a potential four outs with CIBC up by four runs.

Tarrick did not disappoint, making a huge hit to the fence bringing everyone home safely.

Asked about how it feels to win the Tee Ball division title, CIBC Head Coach Richard McMillan responded: ‘Whilst it is a bonus for the kids, if the coaches and parents are only focused on winning championships, then we should be playing in the adult leagues ourselves.

‘The important thing is that all of the children participating in Little League should have had fun this year, developed their softball and other life skills and want to come back next year. If this is not the case then we have failed.

‘The expression ‘Any Given Saturday’ is very applicable. The teams all start equal at the beginning of the year and the difference in most games is a how well your players play on the day, a little coaching and a lot of luck. This year we have had more than our fair share of good fortune,’ he said.
