I was saddened to read in your edition of 5 July 2005 of the death Sunday of Mr. David Foster, and I wish to take this opportunity to offer his wife and family my sympathy.
When I arrived in the Cayman Islands to work nearly three decades ago, David Foster was one of the very first Caymanians to offer a hand of friendship and welcome, and throughout my long stay there he remained my friend and, on occasion, my guide.
I remember him particularly when I was privileged to serve as editor of the Caymanian Compass and he was a director of Cayman Free Press. He used to offer gentle, positive suggestions, but never with any hint or suggestion of editorial interference or influence.
The Cayman Islands has lost a wise and astute business son and patriot of the highest order, and I trust that Almighty God will keep his soul in peace.
