CIFA announces 2005-06 team registration deadlines

All CIFA member clubs are reminded that the deadline for submission of their ‘protected’ team lists for the 2005-06 football season is Wednesday August 31st, 2005. Teams will then have until Thursday September 15th to submit their final registration lists.

All players previously registered to clubs at the end of August 2004 (i.e. after the last transfer window in 2004) remain with those clubs unless omitted from the ‘protected’ lists or subject to official transfer. Players not included in those ‘protected’ lists will be deemed de-registered, and will then be free agents, able to be registered with any other club.

The concessions and flexibility allowed for the 2004-05 season have ceased, and registered players should return to their registered clubs prior to the registration deadline of Thursday September 15th. As a result, the various ‘Guest’ players used in the 2004-05 season must be properly registered for the 2005-06 season; otherwise they will not be eligible to play. Furthermore, the ‘Foreigner rule’ in the CIFA Competitions Rules, will again be in full effect.

As previously advised the player registration and transfer window runs from August 18th – September 15th, 2005. Only registered players will be permitted to participate in CIFA’s senior men’s league.

Registration deadlines for the U14 and Admiral Youth Leagues and the CIFA Women’s League will be announced at a later date.

‘I felt that to return to Madrid would be the wrong decision,’ Owen said, adding he was uncertain Liverpool would make a bid in time and he ‘wanted to play for a club who really wanted me.’

‘I don’t like the big fuss,’ Owen said. ‘I was hoping the deadline would be further forward so we could end this uncertainty. Now we are looking forward and I can be on the back pages for the team winning games and me chipping in with a few goals.’

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez – who sold Owen to Real Madrid in August 2004 shortly after taking over – said re-signing him wouldn’t have made business sense.

‘We tried until the very end to sign Michael,’ Benitez said. ‘We even made phone calls early yesterday morning.’
