Cooking with kids

What kid doesn’t like to stir things up? And what better way than in a junior chefs cooking class featuring such all-time favourites as mac and cheese and Christmas sugar cookies?

Parents may sign up their little kitchen wizards or wannabes ages five to 12 for sessions in October and November offered by Gawk & Leer in Seven Mile Shops plaza.

The interactive classes offer a safe learning environment that encourages discovery and creativity, and may help develop a life-long love of the culinary arts.

Each series of four classes (sold as a series only) costs $100. Also, a one-time purchase of a kid’s 27-piece chef’s kit for $50 is required, as it includes all of the “kid-safe” tools needed for all classes.

A minimum of six parents per class are needed to volunteer as sous-chefs and assist in maintaining a safe environment. The classes are designed to help kids master these skills:

Cooking and baking techniques

Knife skills

Confidence and skills to be better prepared to help you in the kitchen.

2nd: Chocolate Bread pudding

9th: French Bread Pizza

16th: Fresh Pasta with cheese

23rd: Christmas Sugar Cookies
