More than a dozen young Caymanian men and women participated in an intensive workshop focusing on the basics of fashion modelling on the catwalk – modelling for fashions shows.
The workshop, held last weekend, was sponsored by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation as part of its ongoing efforts toward training and preparing young Caymanians for a future in the fashion industry, as well as to boost self-esteem and develop various skills.
“I am very pleased with the wonderful collaboration between CNCF, the four facilitators and the 12 participants in the CNCF Fashion Model Catwalk Training Workshop,” said Virginia Foster, organiser and CNCF volunteer coordinator. “It was a very intensive weekend but all involved gave it their 100 per cent effort and the benefits were truly worth it!
“It is hoped that this will be an annual event as CNCF considers it a most necessary first step for attracting fresh new local models into the fashion industry.”
The models who presented on the catwalk at the Harquail Theatre were being scouted by local designers, including Kidan Brooks, who earlier this year led a week-long crash course in fashion design, culminating in the presentation of individual eight-piece fashion collections. Some of those designs will be debuted in the FRESH Cayman Couture Fashion Show next spring, as will selected models, some of whom are likely to come from the catwalk training workshop.
The catwalk training workshop, which was open to participants ages 16 to 26, featured hair and makeup demonstrations by Jimmie DeLoach (of Zombie Driftwood fame) and Letitia Eden; instruction on portfolio development by photographer Patrick Broderick and model coach Dwight McLean; as well as individual hair and makeup and a mini photo shoot.
