Caribbean tourism ramping up

New website central to marketing

The Caribbean tourism industry’s marketing and business development unit has taken an important step toward relaunching its vacation website, caribbeantravel.com.

The Caribbean Tourism Development Company has signed an agreement with the Florida-based graphics company, Tambourine, to redesign and recreate the site.

As part of a two-year contract, Tambourine will also manage the website on behalf of the development company, a jointly owned and operated private, for-profit entity created in 2007 by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.

“This is a very important moment in the history of the Caribbean Tourism Development Company and a milestone for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, as it launches a new dimension in public/private sector cooperation in regional tourism,” said Richard Skerritt, the organisation’s chairman and co-chairman of the development company.

“The website will be the focal point that both draws awareness and generates bookings for potential vacationers from around the world and therefore will be the centre of our public-private sector cooperative regional marketing programme,” said Josef Forstmayr, Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association president and development company co-chairman.

Caribbean marketing

The redesigned website will be the vehicle through which the Caribbean Tourism Development Company will market the Caribbean brand through licensing, merchandising, advertising, and the sale of vacations. The new site will include among other features, an integrated booking platform that specifically caters to the Caribbean’s smaller hotels.

According to the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, the Caribbean Tourism Development Company is a marketing and business development unit, owned equally by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association and the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

“Its mission is to own, promote, protect, advance and enhance the Caribbean brand. The Caribbean Tourism Development Company combines the resources of the Caribbean region’s destinations, accommodations and service providers to create a viable, cohesive, business unit that is able to identify commercial opportunities and allow the members of the association and organisation to benefit collectively from those opportunities in ways that individually they could not.

“In all its endeavours the company will engage only in activities that honour the Caribbean brand and benefit the members of the Caribbean Tourism Organization and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association,” said spokesman Johnson JohnRose.
