Jet-Ski slams boat, teen injured

A 16-year-old girl is in a
critical condition following a collision between a Jet-Ski and a ‘banana boat’ attraction just off Seven Mile Public
Beach.

At 12.45pm Thursday, police
received a report that a Jet-Ski had collided with the inflatable banana boat just off
public beach.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said the Jet-Ski
was being ridden by a 17-year-old male when it
crashed into a yellow banana-shaped
inflatable raft which was being towed by a
power boat.

Two females, aged 16 and 24
years, were thrown from the inflatable and were subsequently transported to the
Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment.

Police said the 24-year-old woman was released from hospital, but the teenager remains in a critical condition and arrangements
are being made to airlift her to Florida for
treatment.

  1. I am not surprised. I was nearly hit by one wakeboarding, they ran over the rope. The jetskiers seem to think the rules don’t apply to them, speeding in the swimming sone, full speed from the shore….it needs to be regulated or this will only happen again soon

  2. The canal behind our home is a no wake zone. 5 mph. This never stops wave runners, led by a local tour guide, from tearing along at close to 40 mph.

We have complained many times to the police, who do nothing to control speeding by wave runners and other boats in this no wake zone.

This is particularly dangerous as we approach lobster season as many snorkelling youngsters hunt them in the Yacht Club canal.

Obviously it will take a snorkeller to be run over before they take action.
