Fire alarm clears out Ritz

The land-side hotel building of the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman was evacuated Friday afternoon after reports of a fire in the hotel.

Ritz-Carlton spokesperson Melissa Ladley said a minor fire in the restaurant ‘Blue’ was quickly put out. Ms Ladley could not immediately state where the blaze started. She said Cayman Islands Fire Service Crews were still checking it out.

Cayman Islands Fire Service trucks were on scene and traffic in the area of West Bay Road was somewhat congested around mid-afternoon.

More than 100 people had to be evacuated from the hotel’s north side as a precautionary measure, Ms Ladley said. The all-clear was given after 4pm for everyone to return to the hotel.

“The fire was contained quickly with minimal damage,” Ms Ladley said.

“We will cancel reservations for diners at the restaurant this [Friday] evening as a precaution,” she said.”We are operating at quite a full capacity due to the American holiday {Thanksgiving].”

The restaurant re-opened on Saturday for existing reservations and diners would be served out on the terrace, Ms Ladley said.

No one was hurt.
