Locals gearing up for Jet Around

One of Cayman’s biggest sporting events will soon take place.

Monster Media and LIME will stage the fifteenth annual LIME Jet Around Cayman jet ski race on 13 June 2011. The Public Beach on Grand Cayman will host over 36 racers participating, which rivals 2009’s peak amount of 37 competitors. This year’s race sees five classes this year in the Pro-Open, Expert-Open, Rookie, Amateur and Veteran.

Much of the focus will be on the international competitors taking part. Team Guadeloupe returns to defend its title though this time with a new group of racers. Cedric Ramassamy, 22, recently finished second in a open class Kawasaki 300 race, Patrick Gounouman, 30, finished third in the 2011 Championship of Guadeloupe in the open class Kawasaki 300, Pascal Gounouman, 24, is one of Guadeloupe’s best Kawasaki 300 riders, Davy Vaitilingon, 25, was world champion in 2007 and Fabrice Limon, 32, is an up-and-coming rider in Guadeloupe.

In addition Rob Greenwald is slated to take part. The American has over sixteen years experience in professional racing and is a four-time US national champion.

Besides the international racers, the Ministry of Sports Tourism for Guadeloupe will be present here along with TV production companies from Guadeloupe and Canada.

A number of events are taking place prior to the race. This Saturday 4 June sees a multi-stop Road Show around Grand Cayman from 11am-3pm. Next Friday 10 June is the kick-off party at Margaritaville 8pm-10pm featuring a live concert.
