Shot fired in heist
Police said three men – all of them armed – held up the Star Mart Texaco petrol station in Savannah Thursday night.
It was believed the heist occurred just after 10.30pm. Witnesses said at least one shot was fired into the ceiling of the store during incident.
Police later confirmed that a shot was fired into the air after the suspects entered the station convenience store.
Officers said the three armed men made customers and staff inside the Texaco lie on the floor and got away with a cash pan.
No one was injured.
Several police officers, as well as the Royal Cayman Islands Police helicopter were spotted searching the Prospect-Savannah area shortly after the robbery. Officers set up a roadblock on Shamrock Road heading into George Town.
There was no word on any arrests.
One of the suspects was described as about 6’2′ and slim wearing dark jeans and a black long-sleeved shirt. The other two men were shorter and also wore dark clothing. Police said all three also wore masks and gloves.

Unfortunately it is starting to sound like the local Buffalo or Detroit news not the beautiful island of Grand Cayman.
One cannot help but ponder the genesis of this crime wave, are things getting that desperate or are we experiencing organized criminal activities.
Of course it is with tongue in cheek when I say we can eliminate crime and have full employment by posting and paying for policemen to stand guard on every commercial enterprise in Grand Cayman.
Or
We can stop the nonsence of shipping quality hard working, law abiding individuals off island and rebuild the economy through new and invigorated growth and all the collateral investment in local business and infrastructure that goes with it.
We can return the levels of employment to where they were before we embarked on a course of rollover self destruction and in fact return significant value to everyone invested in Grand Cayman if we just get off our butts and do it.
Perhaps then the previously unemployed youth(s) will have other worthwhile causes and won’t need to rob gas stations with guns and violance to have cash money.
Falsely we feel a sense of security in that it appears tourism is recovering, however how long before advisory boards issue travel warnings or worse if a human life is obliterated accidentally or otherwise.
If police can’t control the crime, guess what’s going to happen? You will soon see average civilians and business owners like you and me, carrying arms to protect outselves. This is what’s going to happen. Just the other day, they arrested a Caymanian for carrying an illegal firearm. Said he was carrying it to protect himself. Mark my words – You’re going to see more instances like this, and more copy-cat criminals… whilst the public lose their confidence in the RCIP.
It can’t be that hard for the RCIPS to find men with three arms, can it? I suspect they are from West Bay.
