A George Town man suspected of stealing a bracelet from a Cardinall Avenue jewelry store at 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, was pursued and detained by an off-duty police officer.
The bracelet was recovered, police officials said.
Joseph Alexander Williams, 22, was arraigned in court Friday on a single charge of theft of a diamond bracelet valued at US$7,500 from Milano Diamond Gallery. He was bailed to return to court April 24.
Royal Cayman Islands Police Service officials said Mr. Williams was pursued by a store employee as he fled to the street.
Police constable Lazarus Moraes, who was off duty, saw what was happening and gave chase as well.
Mr. Williams was apprehended about a block away at Main Street, near First Caribbean Bank, by Constable Moraes, the store worker and other members of the public, officials said.
