It’s official. The Easter Bunny has been declared an essential worker and is now exempted from Cayman’s curfew.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Governor Martyn Roper as he addressed the daily COVID-19 press briefing.
He admitted the decision took some deliberation.
“I know that the premier and I spent a long time this morning discussing it and we have agreed that the Easter Bunny is an essential worker. So, provided the Easter Bunny stays at home, he or she will be allowed out over Easter,” he said.
Roper said he knew Easter is “incredibly important” to Cayman, and especially for “our children who have seen very many changes and they are too young to understand a lot of them”.
While the bunny is cleared for Easter activities, Premier Alden McLaughlin reminded the public that they are not, which means that the curfew is to be observed.
This week, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern classified the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy as essential workers.
On Thursday, the Cayman Compass was informed that the Tooth Fairy has also been cleared for duty, having been declared an essential worker.
