Police seize handgun in car search

Police have charged a 37-year-old man with possession of an unlicensed firearm after finding a loaded gun in his car during a search of his vehicle in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man is expected to appear in court this morning, 19 Oct., police said.

According to a statement issued by the RCIPS today, officers from the Firearm Response Unit had cause to stop and search a black Honda Stream along Shedden Road, in the vicinity of Mary Street, George Town, at 12:45am on Sunday.

They searched the car with the assistance of the K-9 Unit, and found a loaded black-and-silver handgun under the driver’s seat.

The man was arrested and remains in custody pending further investigation, police said. He was formally charged on Monday for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
