Positive COVID-19 passenger charged for travelling to Cayman

A 28-year-old woman is due to make an initial Summary Court appearance on Tuesday, 2 Nov., on a charge of breach of COVID-19 suppression regulations, for travelling to Cayman, despite having tested positive for COVID-19.

The woman arrived in Cayman on 9 Sept. aboard Cayman Airways flight KX605 from the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica.

Her identity has not been released by police.

At the time of her arrival, the then-COVID-19 Suppression and Prevention Regulations required all inbound travellers to produce a negative COVID-19 PCR result from a test taken within 72 hours prior to their arrival in Grand Cayman.

Following the passenger’s arrival, Travel Cayman announced that the matter was under investigation.

In a statement issued shortly after 2pm Monday, a spokesperson for the RCIPS said the woman was “formally charged with Failure to comply with Regulation 3(1)(b)(i) of the Control of Covid-19 (No.2) Regulations, 2021 (SL 39 of 2021)”.

This section of the regulations refers to a failure to provide a negative PCR test upon arrival.

Cayman Airways President and CEO Fabian Whorms issued a statement in September which said an internal investigation was underway to determine the cause of the breach of the airline’s protocols.

  1. How could she past thru all that without her negative pcr results? Is not the woman to charge is the airline for breaching. Protocols are set in place for entering, how can it be breached if not the neglect of the agents
