Police officer allegedly assaulted near the Annex

A police officer on foot patrol in George Town was allegedly assaulted on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after 6pm, witnesses reported sirens and police activity in the area by the Annex football pitch.

Police told the Compass that officers had been on patrol on Shedden Road when they were “approached aggressively” by a man, who allegedly assaulted one of the cops.

The man fled towards Mary Street, police said, and additional officers were called to assist.

The man, age 32 of George Town, was subsequently located on School Road and arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assaulting police.
