Two people robbed of jewellery at gunpoint on Eastern Avenue

Police are investigating two separate armed robberies, which they believe to have been committed by the same culprit.

According to a police press release, just before 4am on Tuesday, police responded to an armed robbery at a location on Eastern Avenue, north of Godfrey Nixon Way.

During the incident, a man was approached by a suspect in a vehicle who brandished a firearm as he demanded jewellery from him, before fleeing the scene with a gold necklace belonging to the victim. Police said no shots were fired and no-one was injured during the incident.

In the second robbery, which officers responded to shortly after 4am, at a location further south on Eastern Avenue, another man was approached and threatened with a firearm. In the ensuing struggle, the culprit fled the scene in a vehicle, with an item of jewellery. Police say the victim sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

Both robberies are under investigation, and are believed to have been committed by the same person.
