The Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) is investigating a data breach that, on 5 April, involved the personal data of some licensees on its online portal.
The department said it immediately took its portal for designated non-financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs) offline.
According to the DCI the data breach concerned “individuals associated with a small number of licensees”.
A system fix is being tested before the system reactivated.
DCI said it has has notified the Office of the Ombudsman and is continues to take action in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
Notices relating to the incident have been issued to the individuals whose personal data has been disclosed.
