Bedroom styling with Label C

OUR SANCTUARY, OUR REFUGE – a bedroom is one of the most important rooms in a home, unsurprising as we spend a third of our lives sleeping in its main attraction – the bed.

But how do we make this functional furnishing as beautiful and welcoming as it deserves?

“I’m always asked about styling beds – how many pillows do I need? How many layers?” says Cynthia Tranel, owner of Label C Design Studio. “A bedroom should look cozy and simple, sophisticated and elegant, regardless of what style you go with. I am a firm believer that small details make a significant difference.”

Here are Cynthia’s easy tips on styling your bed and bedroom.

1. Start with placing a rug to ground and shape the room perfectly, then add your bed and nightstands. I usually select linen beds: I love how the linen adds a cozy yet streamlined look to the space.

2. Get your linens on the bed and start layering. I am all about layers and good quality linens. You do get what you pay for when it comes to bedding. There’s nothing that adds comfort to a bedroom like beautiful linens. Invest in your bed and bedding, this is your sanctuary where you spend hours daily. Fitted sheet goes first, then flat sheet goes second. I always tend to make a contrast between these two. Your third layer can be either a duvet or a simple and chic quilt. Add a cozy throw on top for a textured bedroom look.

3. Grab your pillows to experiment with. Start with stacking your sleeping pillows on top of each other against the headboard, then place larger decorative pillows in front of those and keep adding more by working your way forward with smaller pillows. You can add multiple patterns and colours, as long as they are all under the same general tone. It’s never enough pillows!

4. Add wall sconces or table lamps on your nightstands, with a little greenery in a vase, a candle, and maybe artwork. Another idea is to have a small tray with a cute carafe on for a nighttime hydration, both pretty and practical. Keep it simple, subtle, and calm.

5. If you have room, try to fit a lounge chair or a bench at the foot of your bed to add an extra layer of coziness. It’s a great spot to throw your bag at the end of the day, but it’s also nice to have a place to sit somewhere else besides your bed.
