Five of the UK’s top judges are set to preside over several difficult and complex financial and criminal cases, as part of a historic session in the Cayman Islands from 15-18 Nov.
The proceedings commence on Tuesday, 15 Nov., with a special Grand Court opening ceremony at the Halls of Justice (formerly the main court building).
At 9am, ahead of the ceremony, will be an inspection of a Royal Cayman Islands Police Service guard of honour by Robert John Reed, Lord Reed of Allermuir, the president of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the Judicial Administration said in a press release.

Once the pomp and ceremony are completed, the judges are expected to preside over several complex financial rulings as well as the case of Justin Ramoon vs. the governor of the Cayman Islands.
A summary of the issues to be decided, posted on the Privy Council website, indicates, “This appeal concerns the lawfulness of the appellant’s removal from the Cayman Islands to serve his prison sentence in England.”
When not presiding, the judges are slated to participate in information sessions with both senior legal practitioners and students in Cayman, including through its ‘Ask a Justice’ programme.
“The Ask a Justice sessions provide a unique insight into the work of the Justices and are excellent for students with a keen interest in the law,” said the Judicial Administration in its statement.
“There will also be social activities that will enable a cross-section of Cayman citizens to interact with the Justices. This will include a reception at Government House, at which a range of judicial, legal, government, and community interests will attend.”
At the conclusion of the visit, the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association will host a gala which will be open to members of the public, the wider legal fraternity and other government officials.
