Swimmer Jillian Crooks returned home on Tuesday, 20 Dec., after setting multiple national records at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

She arrived just a day after her brother, Jordan Crooks, who returned home from winning gold in the 50 metre free.

“I’m very proud with my results,” Jillian, 15, told the Cayman Compass Tuesday afternoon. “The meet…was amazing. I got to cheer my brother on and got to see a lot of my friends as well.”

Jillian, who is Cayman’s youngest Olympian, closed out her competition at the World Championships on Tuesday, 13 Dec.

She competed in the 50m fly, where she swam 26.40 seconds to set a new national record, besting her previous time of 27.44. She placed 24th overall in that event.

She then went on to swim the 100m free, where she clocked 54.20, lowering her previous national time of 55.34 and placing 26th overall out of 63 athletes.

The Ministry for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage will host a reception to honour both Jordan and Jillian Crooks on Wednesday, 21 Dec. from 5:30pm to 7.30pm in Heroes Square, George Town.
