It’s been a rainy few days in Cayman, but the forecast is indicating clearer skies for the new year.

According to the National Weather Service, over the past three days, 4.76 inches of rain was recorded locally.

Meteorologist Gilbert Miller told the Compass that some isolated showers are expected over the next few days as a stationary cold front over the northern Caribbean slowly dissipates.

Wave heights on Wednesday were rough, reaching 4 to 6 feet, and small craft were being advised to exercise caution over open water.

Fireworks are scheduled at several venues on New Year’s Eve, and organisers are hoping the current rainy weather and cloudy skies will have improved by then – something Miller says is looking likely.

“The models do not show any significant activity around us on Dec 31st so we can all ring in the new year festively,” he said.
