Cayman’s youth inline hockey teams represented at the Winter Wars East Roller Hockey State Wars tournament through 17-19 March in Marple, Pennsylvania.
While the tournament pulled teams from five different states and two different countries, this year the Cayman Island’s Hockey Federation sent three teams from the 10U, 12U and 14U divisions. The competitive tournament consists of three round robin games in which only the top five teams advance based on their wins and goal differentials.
The travelling Statewars team coaches, Eric Lacasse and Serge Berube (10U); Dan Allard, Rob Leadbetter and Cary Marr (12U); and Kevin Huys and Mike McDonald (14U) have volunteered their time weekly both on and off the rink to get these kids ready to compete against some of the best inline skaters in their division.
The 14U advanced to the semifinals after tying their first game and winning the next two games in their round robin. The 12U went undefeated in their round robin. Both teams ended the tournament with tough losses in the semifinals, but came in overall third place for their age divisions.
