The National Weather Service radar, which has been out of commission for two months, is back up and running again.

The weather service had been waiting for a part from a manufacturer in Germany for its Kearney Gomez Doppler Radar, in High Rock, East End.

The National Weather Service said the radar had stopped working in March following a hardware failure.

The repairs to the radar come just in time for the beginning of hurricane season, which officially starts on 1 June.

Last year, the radar was out of service for nine months, after being damaged in Tropical Storm Grace.

The radar is used to detect moisture and water droplets up to 250 miles from the Cayman Islands, and is considered an important tool for the weather service during hurricane season.

On the National Weather Service website, when the radar is operational, people can see radar images from 30, 150 and 250 miles away.
