One man is nursing injuries to the head after he was wounded in a machete attack Thursday afternoon.

Police are still looking for the suspect who inflicted the injuries on the man and have appealed for witnesses who may have seen the attack.

The incident happened on Shedden Road in the vicinity of Mary Street.

In a statement Friday night, police said that just after 1:50pm on Thursday, officers and emergency services were dispatched to the scene following a report that an assault had taken place involving a machete.

Officers from the Firearm Response Unit were also dispatched. Upon arrival, they were directed to the back of a building, where a man was being treated by the Emergency Medical Services for head injuries that he sustained during the incident.

Police said officers were told that a second man had used the machete to inflict the injuries on the victim.

The wounded man was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

The incident is under investigation.
