Cayman’s Rasheem Brown rocketed out of the starting blocks and onto the podium to claim a silver medal in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador on Wednesday.
Brown, 23, had the quickest reaction time of the final’s eight runners before stopping the clock at 13.64 seconds, finishing in a near-dead heat with Barbados’ Shane Brathwaite to earn Cayman its first medal of these CAC Games.
A senior at the University of Tennessee, Brown recently finished up his collegiate track career with a bronze medal in the same event at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May, followed by a final appearance at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June.
Also representing the Cayman Islands on the track at these Games was Shalysa Wray. A 2021 Olympian and junior at Kansas State University, Wray placed sixth in her semi-final heat of the women’s 400m with a time of 55.68 on July 4, finishing 12th overall.
