A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a verbal dispute ended with him allegedly running another man over with his SUV.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 9 July, a spokesperson for the RCIPS said the incident occurred shortly after 8:20pm the previous night along North Sound Road in the vicinity of the George Town Yacht Club.

“On arriving at the scene, officers observed a member of the public administering CPR to a man on the ground,” said police. “Officers secured the area and an ambulance arrived and took over resuscitation efforts.”

Police say the man was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital and later pronounced dead.

“It was reported to officers that the suspect and victim had been engaged in a verbal dispute that turned physical,” police said.

“Subsequently, the victim appears to have been struck by a car. Investigations as to the circumstances are ongoing.”

The suspect, a George Town man, remains in police custody at the Cayman Islands Detention Centre after being arrested.

The matter is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information, is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222.
