Work is expected to begin in September to turn a piece of wasteland at the back of Bodden Town into an attractive public park.
The Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure is inviting contractors to submit bids to remove unwanted material and place fill at the site at the end of Will T Road.
The aim is to get the area ready to create a “safe and accessible open space for exercise and family activities”, a description of the job on the government’s public purchasing portal says.
Plans for the park show a multi-use sports court surrounded by a walking track, with meandering pathways, greenery, benches, a gazebo, a natural pond, bathrooms and parking.

It is all part of the government’s mission to have stronger communities, support the most vulnerable, and ensure Caymanians benefit from a healthy environment, the website says.
Once a bidder has been chosen, they will have to excavate and remove unsuitable material such as muck, peat, organic soils, debris and clay from the site.
They will then need to supply and place engineered fill such as Cayman rock and crusher run to certain areas to prepare for building.
Bidding closes on 2 Aug. The ministry expects work to begin in September and take two months to complete.
The Compass has reached out to the ministry for more information on the project and is awaiting a response.
The government is also moving ahead with plans to build a new public park in Central Scranton, George Town.
On 6 July it closed a request for bids to demolish and remove a derelict building, basketball court and shed at the four-acre site.
The new park will include two man-made ponds, a basketball court, a seniors’ centre, exercise equipment, landscaping and a wishing well.
