Justin Hastings and Charlotte Webster concluded Cayman’s Pan American Games campaign this week, with the golfer making history as the first Caymanian to compete in his sport, and the sailor marking “an incredible journey”.
Hastings posted a four-round total of an 8-under-par 280, with his third round a stand-out 63, 9 under par, which was the low score of the day.
Hastings, who is Cayman’s top-ranked player, tied for 11th overall out of the XXX golfers in the men’s division at the Prince of Wales Country Club.
In an email to the Compass, Daniel Fortune, president of the Cayman Islands Golf Association, said Hastings’ golfing was top tier, despite placing just off 10th place.
“In a field that comprised five players from the lucrative LIV Golf Tour along with a host of other professionals and some of the best amateur players in the United States, it represents a fantastic achievement for Justin to finish so well and we are looking forward to his continued development in the game,” he said.

Webster, who is considered to be Cayman’s current top female sailor, finished 12th out of 17 competitors in the Dinghy – ILCA 6 division – finishing her racing in Algarrobo on Saturday, 4 Nov.
She took to social media following the games, saying, “It was an honor to represent the Cayman Islands.
“I finished 12th after 10 tricky close races with the largest swell I have ever sailed in, and it’s been an unforgettable journey.”
Both Webster and Hastings thanked the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee for the opportunity along with coaches, family, friends and the many sponsors who supported each athlete.
Webster will build off her performance in Chile, as she prepares for a chance to represent her home at the Olympic Games in Paris next summer.
As for Hastings, he will be flying the Cayman flag at the Latin American Amateur Championship in Panama in January alongside fellow golfers Aaron and Andrew Jarvis.
Cayman also competed in athletics and swimming at the games, prior to Webster and Hastings closing the show.
