A couple of Cayman swimmers finished out their 2023 season last month at the Christmas Open held at the National Aquatic Centre in Kingston, Jamaica.

Athletes from Seven Mile Swimmers, Stingray Swim Club and Camana Bay Aquatic Club turned in podium places in their respective events, with some setting records.

Caymanian standout Jillian Crooks was also competing at the event for TAC Titans, based in the US.

CBAC’s Lev Fahy is continuing to build momentum for the CARIFTA Championships, which will be held later this year, as he notably stood out from the pack in Jamaica, notching six meet records – four of which were individual times.

He etched his name in the Christmas Open history books, securing records in the 50 metre, 100m and 200m backstroke, and then the 200m individual medley.

Fahy went on to assist Gabriel Bispath, Lennox Turnham-Wheatley, and Kylen McLean in winning the 4×100 freestyle relay, in record time. The four boys would team up again for 4×100 medley relay, in which they prevailed as the victors.

Crooks also stamped her authority at the meet, claiming four individual records in the 50m and 100m free and in the 50m and 100m back.

SSC’s Cassidy Coles set a meet record in the 200m butterfly, before assisting in the 4×200 free relay, alongside Anna Oldfield, Lucy Butler and Poppy Loxton.

Riley Watson claimed a record in the 200 IM, Will Sellars in the 200m back, Azania Osborne in the 50m breaststroke, and Connor Macdonald who swam a Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association record of 17:08.31 in the 1500m free.

The next swim meet on the CIASA schedule is the Ms. Penny McDowall Memorial Meet, set for 26-28 Jan., before nationals on 10-13 Feb.
