After months of negotiations, ‘The Retirement Plan’, which was filmed in the Cayman Islands and stars Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage, is finally set to hit local screens on Friday.
Corey Randolph, Camana Bay Cinema general manager, confirmed to the Cayman Compass on Wednesday that the movie has been cleared for release locally.
“Camana Bay Cinema never gave up trying to acquire The Retirement Plan. We are pleased to announce that we will have showtimes of this feature starting Friday,” Randolph said via email.
‘The Retirement Plan’, which was opened in US cinemas on 15 Sept., has been paired for release together with another locally shot movie, ‘Some Other Woman’.
‘The Retirement Plan’ is among the latest offerings from the American action star.
Cage stars as a Cayman Islands beach bum asked to come out of retirement to save his daughter’s life.
The movie is written and directed by Tim Brown, and produced by William G. Santor, CEO of Productivity Media, and Nicholas Tabarrok, president of Darius Films.
‘The Retirement Plan’ features Ron Perlman, who also filmed ‘The Baker’ in Cayman.
Ashley Greene, along with Ernie Hudson, of ‘Ghostbusters’ fame, are also in the cast.
‘The Baker’ premiered at the local cinema on Friday, 28 July, the same day it was released in the US.
Ronnie Hughes, director and instructor at The Academy Grand Cayman, who appeared in both movies, said he was happy to hear that people will get to see ‘The Retirement Plan’.
“[It is] something that a lot of Caymanians were part of bringing to life. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it,” Hughes said.
‘Some Other Woman’
‘Some Other Woman’ initially premiered at the 2023 Mammoth Film Festival and, according to movie site Firstshowin.net, since 5 Jan. has been playing in select theatres in the US.
The film features Tom Felton of the Harry Potter franchise, Amanda Crew and Ashley Greene.
The movie, a psychological thriller, is directed by Joel David Moore, who has appeared in both ‘Avatar’ films.
‘Some Other Woman’ a collaboration between Productivity Media and Moore’s company, Balcony 9 Productions, was one of four films shot here during the pandemic.
According to deadline.com, the film follows “Eve Carver (Crew), a woman whisked away to a tropical island by her husband’s work for what was only supposed to be a few months. But as the months turn to years, Eve is forced to give up her own dreams as the island fever grows stronger and stronger. Reality begins to unravel around her as she encounters a strange woman (Greene) who begins taking over her life, piece by piece.”
