Cold front to extend cool temperatures

Temperatures in Cayman are expected to drop by as much as 10 degrees overnight thanks to a passing cold front, which forecasters say will remain in the area for the next 24 hours.

In its 10am forecast on Sunday 25 Feb., the Cayman Islands National Weather Services advised that temperatures across the islands are likely to hover around the mid- to low-80s Fahrenheit by day, then drop to the 70’s at night.

“Moderate north to northeast winds and seas are expected across the Cayman area for the next 24 hours as a cold front move across our area and its associated high-pressure system builds over the eastern US,” advised forecaster Allan Ebanks.

He added, “The front is expected to move east of the Cayman area this evening and becoming stationary. Satellite images show scattered low-level clouds across the northwest Caribbean.”

Unlike the Nor’wester that wreaked havoc across Grand Cayman’s western coastlines earlier this month, the current passing cold front is expected to generate much smaller waves of two to four feet in height.

According to Ebanks, the cold front is expected to move east of the Cayman area by mid day Tuesday.
