The Cayman Islands is experiencing another cold front, bringing rough seas, brisk northerly winds and cooler temperatures.
In the morning weather forecast on 23 Feb., the Cayman Islands National Weather Service issued a small craft advisory which will be upgraded to a marine watch later this evening.
A strong wind advisory is also in effect, with 23 to 28 mph northerly winds forecast, along with higher gusts.
The weather forecast said, “A rapid increase in winds and building of seas are expected as a result of this frontal passage. Northern and westerly swells are expected today, alongside below average temperatures, especially overnight.”
Waves are forecast to primarily impact the western and northern coastlines including Seven Mile Beach, with wave heights building throughout the day on Monday reaching eight to 10 feet by Monday night.
Temperatures are forecast to drop to the mid to upper 60s on Monday and Tuesday nights.
On Monday morning, residents experienced a brief period of heavy rainfall associated with the frontal boundary, which led to localised flooding in places.

Rough seas and strong, gusty winds until Tuesday
The front will continue to influence Cayman’s weather conditions through Tuesday, when it will then move past the Cayman Islands, becoming stationary east of Jamaica.
On Tuesday the winds are forecast to be north to northeast at 26 to 32 mph with higher gusts, gradually decreasing to 17 to 23 mph by the evening.
Seas will remain rough to very rough, with wave heights of eight to 10 feet, gradually subsiding to five to seven feet by evening.
Swells are expected along northern and western coasts. A marine watch will remain in effect until Tuesday night and the strong wind advisory will be discontinued in the afternoon on Tuesday.
The national weather service said the outlook is for a gradual decrease in winds and seas through Wednesday, as the associated high-pressure system begins to shift into the western Atlantic Ocean.
The marine watch will be downgraded to a small craft advisory from late Tuesday night. A small craft advisory will remain in place on Wednesday with the winds and seas gradually subsiding.
