The Cayman Islands men’s national football team competed in Europe twice this week, in games against FC Turan, a professional club from Kazakhstan, and Moldova.

Cayman first played FC Turan on 23 March, losing that match 5-1 – the sole goal for Cayman coming courtesy of Gunnar Studenhofft. Then on 26 March, Cayman, ranked 197 by FIFA, faced Moldova at 155, in an international friendly where the Cayman men suffered a 4-0 defeat.

Both matches were played in Antalya, Turkey and the fixture against Moldova marked Cayman’s first official FIFA international friendly since 2009.

“Outstanding effort, gentlemen,” the Cayman Islands Football Association wrote on its Instagram page. “Your representation of the Cayman Islands in Europe reflects immense pride, and the nation celebrates your achievements, including the fantastic goal against Turan FC.”

The Cayman national men’s team will now turn their attention to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, which begins this June in a qualifying game against Antigua and Barbuda at home.
