What started off as a casual pick-up football game turned into an unexpected star-studded encounter for some local footballers playing at the Cayman International School field.
An ordinary evening kickaround was instantly elevated to Premier League heights when former Arsenal players Alexandre Lacazette and Ainsley Maitland-Niles joined in the action.
Playing on the field during the encounter was Shane Curran who said the experience “was quite surreal”.
“They were just walking by, and I guess some people must have spotted them and asked them to join in. They started playing, and most of us didn’t realise who they were at the beginning. Then word started spreading that it was Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alexandre Lacazette,” said Curran.
He added, “They were very friendly and humble, and stayed for pictures afterwards.”
Maitland-Niles, 28, is an English professional footballer who currently plays as a defensive midfielder or right-back for Ligue 1 club Lyon, while Lacazette, 35, is a French professional footballer playing as a forward for Saudi Pro League club Neom.
