Plainclothes police officers nabbed a machete-wielding assailant Sunday afternoon, potentially preventing a serious incident.
In a brief statement released by the RCIPS, a media spokesperson said officers, who were not in uniform, were on foot patrol along Seafarers Way, George Town, around midday Sunday when they came upon a heated dispute.
“Further investigations led the officers to come upon an incident where a man was seen with a machete, in motion, about to assault another man at the location,” said the spokesperson.
According to police, the officers immediately identified themselves, “and in an effort to prevent loss of life, one of the officers challenged the man armed with the machete using his service weapon”.
Police say the armed man complied with instructions of the officer and discarded the weapon, before being subsequently arrested for possession of a restricted weapon. He was taken into custody, where he remains.
