The Cayman Islands under-17 girls’ national team showcased determination during the 2024 ECEDAO Futbol international tournament last month, in Salinas, Puerto Rico.
“We are extremely pleased with our results in Puerto Rico,” Alexander Gonzalez, U17 girls coach told the Compass. “While this team features a young core of players, they went toe-to-toe with older, more experienced players from larger countries and they held their own.”
The Cayman team first claimed a dominant 8-0 victory over the US Virgin Islands before 1-1 draws in their next two games against Ecdao Futbol and Puerto Rico.
Their performance was enough for a second-place finish. In addition, the tournament in Salinas was to further prepare the youth team for the upcoming 2024 CONCACAF Girls’ U-15 Championship, set for August.
“We look forward to seeing this group of young women continue to develop,” Gonzalez said.
