After competing in the Pan-American Youth Chess Championship in July, the Cayman national chess team again is putting their training to the test at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest.

The tournament, which runs until 23 Sept., features open and female sections –  with five players from Cayman in each category, and all participating at this event for the first time.

Cayman got off to a good start on Wednesday, 11 Sept., with Cayman national champion Kudakwashe Chinake securing a win against his United Arab Emirates counterpart, according to a Facebook post by the Cayman Islands Chess Federation.

Action will continue with the open team for Cayman – Chinake, Christopher Young, Clifford Shaw and Shaun Tracey, with Malcolm Powell a reserve.
