Volunteers, supporters and dog-lovers turned out in force to celebrate the Cayman Islands Humane Society’s 51st birthday at the weekend.
The fundraising event, on the grounds of the Holiday Inn on Saturday afternoon, was held to support the charity’s work in looking after and rehousing cats and dogs in need of care as well as to celebrate the anniversary.
Guests at the party included seven energetic puppies, the Humane Society’s newest arrivals, who were a big hit with children and adults alike.
The seven male puppies are all available for adoption – a female sibling has already found a home – and came to the society after their mother was abandoned while giving birth to her litter.

Also receiving lots of love and attention at the event were the Society’s more established wards who, like the puppies, are looking for a permanent home.
Saturday marked Kite’s fourth year at the animal shelter on North Sound Road in George Town. Playing with Kite was volunteer Karyn Duffy, who often takes the dog home for sleepovers, and Louane Silver, who is running in this weekend’s Cayman Islands half marathon in support of the Humane Society.

Some of the dogs at the event had already found their forever homes thanks to the work of the non-profit. Toffee Pudding, a terrier/lab/German shepherd mix, had been found tied to a tractor with her collar so tightly twisted around her neck that it had to be surgically removed, but is now enjoying life with her new owner Tammy Kelderman.

As well as the dogs to play with, the fundraiser included stalls selling books, toys and clothes, a tombola and raffle, competitions and discounts on food and drink from the Driftwood Bar and Grill.
