With many yoga poses named after animals – downward dog, cat/cow, pigeon and camel to name but some – it is hardly surprising that kittens want to get in on the act.
Half a dozen cute little felines were the stars of the show at the latest Bliss Yoga Kitten & Cat Yoga session, which not only raises much-needed funds for the Cayman Islands Humane Society, but also is a great way for the tiny kittens to prepare for their future homes, said yoga instructor Iliana Bonilla, who runs the monthly sessions.

“During the yoga sessions the kittens get used to interacting with humans and become less afraid of them, which is great for them when it comes to finding them a permanent home,” she said. “We also hope that people who come to the yoga session will bond with one of the kittens and might want to adopt it, which happened in our last session.”
The kittens are either found stray on the streets or are born to pregnant cats who are rescued by the Humane Society and their furry presence certainly adds a unique element to a yoga session, as the Compass discovered on a recent session.
The initially timid kittens quickly got used to having humans in the room and were soon zooming around the studio lured by various playthings brought by Bonilla. By the end of the session, everyone had perfected their kitten-cuddle pose and several hundred dollars had been raised to look after them and their fellow rescue cats.
The next Kitten & Cat Yoga sessions are being held at Bliss Yoga on 30 May and 27 June. Contact Bliss directly on 949-9642 to book or email [email protected] – entry is $30 with proceeds going to Humane Society.
