Kyra Rabess got things started for the Cayman Islands at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (short course), in Budapest on Tuesday, 10 Dec., with a new national record.
Rabess hit the pool for heat two of the 400-metre freestyle, which she won in a time of 4:14.77 – a new best which broke her previous national record of 04:15.78.
Her swim was good enough to place her 29th overall in that event out of 41 swimmers. Rabess will return to the pool on Wednesday for the 800m free at 4:30am (all times are Cayman time).
Accompanying Rabess in Budapest are fellow Caymanians, siblings Jordan and Jillian Crooks, who will begin their events on Wednesday, with Jillian competing in heat four of the 100m free at 3am.
Then Jordan, Cayman’s swimming superstar and Olympic finalist, will step up for his 100m free heat, starting 3:40am.
The semi-finals for the 100m free event are scheduled to take place later in the day with the finals set for Thursday.
The siblings will return to action on Saturday, 14 Dec., for the much-anticipated 50m free – an event in which Jordan hopes to repeat his gold-medal performance of 2022.
Jillian will start in heat six, at 4am, before Jordan lines up in heat 10. The semi-finals for Sunday, 11:40 am.
